Top 3 Things to Consider When Planning Cosmetic Surgery

In a survey published last year by Mintel it was revealed that around 48% of adults in the UK would consider having some kind of cosmetic surgery.

Increased Media Exposure

Thanks to an increase in exposure in magazines, film and TV, more and more people are seeing the results of plastic surgery and looking to have work done themselves. If you are one of the many people who are considering having a cosmetic procedure then below are the top three things you should consider…

List Your Reasons

Before you make any decisions, ensure you take the time to list the reasons why you want to have cosmetic surgery. If you plan to have a breast augmentation operation for example, firstly consider other options for increasing the fullness of your chest. Often, issues such as low self esteem can lead to people wanting cosmetic surgery but unless the underlying problem is addressed, surgery may not necessarily improve how they feel about themselves.

Ask Questions

Find a surgeon who you feel totally at ease with. Many procedures such as breast surgery are very personal so you will need to feel comfortable with your surgeon. Ask as many questions as you can before the procedure including questions about recovery time and the risk of complications. Remember that good cosmetic surgeons will always have your health and wellbeing in mind so if your surgeon refuses to operate on you then listen to them. It could be for a number of reasons, for example, if you want a breast augmentation operation but are too young then the surgeon may advise that you let your body develop fully before having a procedure.

Mental & Physical Recovery

3) Think about how you will feel after your operation. Although ideally you will feel satisfied with the results it will take time to adjust to your new body. Whether you’ve had surgery on your body such as liposuction or breast surgery or a facial procedure, you shouldn’t underestimate the time it will take to physically recover and adjust mentally to the new you.
