Choosing the Right Tummy Tuck Surgeon

Abdominoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to make the stomach muscles firmer; these days, it is more commonly known as a “tummy tuck.”  The decision to have such a procedure is not one to be taken lightly. There are several considerations to be made including financial viability, your current bill of health and ultimately, what your true aesthetic desires are. However, probably the biggest consideration before a tummy tuck or cosmetic procedure needs to be who you will trust to perform it. This decision will come simply to some people, but it needs to be someone who is in the best possible position to meet your needs and requirements. After all, this person is about to be given the keys to your body and ask to potentially unlock a whole new chapter in your life.

The single most important thing to look for in a cosmetic surgeon is certification. Here in the UK, you can check whether they are registered with the General Medical Council via its own website. They should also be on the specialist register for Plastic Surgery and ideally be a member of either the BAPRAS or BAAPS. Apart from the obvious qualifications, the memberships indicate a level of dedication to the art and science of plastic surgery and helps ensure the expertise and skills necessary to provide you with a safe and effective procedure.

You should also seek to find out where the procedure will be performed. Abdominoplasty is a complex surgical procedure and should ideally be carried out in a hospital or private surgical facility. The last thing you want is unnecessary risks and complications and the better the surgical environment, the less chance there is of such complications arising. As with any surgery, it’s almost impossible to guarantee the results. However, a qualified and professional cosmetic surgeon should be able to freely provide some before and after case studies of actual patients for you to look at and get a better idea if the procedure is for you.

Most important of all is to remember that this is your body and you deserve a customised solution and the right results. Finding the correct cosmetic surgeon might not turn you into the next Jessica Ennis, but it will certainly give you the best possible chance of having a tummy tuck that you will to be proud to show off to your friends after the event.
