Breast reduction methods to treat your cancer
For certain patients a standard breast reduction can be used to both treat the breast cancer and re-shape the breasts to give good shape and symmetry. This technique is suitable for B cup to larger breasted patients where a breast reduction may be considered advantagous. The technique allows the cancer to be excised with a wide margin of normal tissue and in some pre-cancerous conditions MAY avoid the need for radiotherapy. This technique is still only suitable for patients that can be treated by breast conserving methods and with enough breast tissue left after wide local excision to adequately re-shape the breast. As with most breast conserving surgery the patient is usually advised to have radiotherapy following the cancer excision and re-shaping.
Surgery is required to both breasts for this method of treatment. Recovery is as for a breast reduction. Any surgery to the lymph glands in the arm-pit will remain the same as for standard breast conserving surgery. Stephen McCulley is a world expert in this technique.
